Building Confidence and Social Impact: Highlights from HK MODEL CAMP's SDG initiatives

Updated: Nov 6

At HK MODEL CAMP, we strongly believe in the mission “To inspire you to fulfil the “highest expression of yourself”, no matter who you are.”, as expressed by Oprah Winfrey.

Our goal has always been to help our community build confidence and self-esteem through our platform. We hope to inspire and empower those around us through exploring opportunities within social impact projects and sustainable development goals (SDGs), while supporting those that are less represented in our community. We are proud to share how we have used creative expression to meet the SDGs and will continue to do so.

  1. Work with Shirley Yeung

Dr Shirley Yeung is an expert in the field of sustainable development goals, building awareness on the use of art, technology and culture as therapy and empowerment. In September of 2023, as part of a bigger project supported by COP28, the United Nations Climate Change conference in Dubai, HK MODEL CAMP, together with Dr. Yeung, visualised the self-confidence workshop, meeting SDGs 5 Gender Equality, 4 Quality Education, 9 Innovations, and 17 Partnership. This allowed us to host a workshop with the Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College here in Hong Kong on empowerment with ethnic minorities. The success of this project has encouraged us to continue on using our creative outputs to bring light on the SDGs and social impact.

Beyond this workshop, we were also able to support Dr. Yeung in an online session, conducted from the United Nations ESCAP Bangkok, brought to the Shehersaaz community office in Dhoke Hassue, Rawalpindi, Pakistan and organised by Anahita Sajjad. During this session, we were able to share our knowledge on building confidence and pursuing passions, while promoting cultural heritage and fostering inclusivity in communities, thereby supporting SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

  1. Lupus Revolution

In the first half of 2024, we took part in multiple projects working on creating a social impact. One that stands out for us is our inclusive fashion show with My Lupus Diary, where we helped co-organise a runway show with 10 Lupus patients turned models with our modelling coaching services.

It was incredible to see these women strut down the runway and use this platform to raise awareness and empower others, while they inspired us as well with their strength and resilience.

Being able to take part in this movement to challenge misconceptions was an incredibly enlightening experience. It was an honour to collaborate with Sapphire Shen, celebrity makeup artist, founder of My Lupus Diary and Lupus patient herself, and we are proud to have been part of this experience.

  1. NFTs

To provide a platform for support and donations for our social impact causes, we released NFTs which allows all of you the opportunity to provide for a good cause through our modelling shots. By investing in our collection, you are provided with unique digital art, while funding projects such as our confidence-building workshops with communities like the Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College in Hong Kong. With these tokens, we are also able to support the artists who have carefully crafted this content.

  1. Other past projects

We have also had the pleasure to bring our confidence workshop to the TEDxTinhauwomen platform and share our mission with a larger community. Beyond the above, our work with Inspiring Girls Hong Kong with sharing on career path and values consolidated our input in maintaining SDG 4: Quality Education through inspiration and empowerment. Throughout our journey, HK MODEL CAMP has continued to show inclusivity and diversity through our team as well as our clients and projects.

  1. Upcoming!

We are working on Confidence, Posture & Runway workshops for university students upcoming at the end of this year and if you would like to support our projects you can help out through our NFT platform!

Stay tuned for more updates on our initiatives aimed at promoting awareness in social impact.
